For my final project, I decided to create a twine game because after taking this class, I realized that game could be interesting and enjoyable enough even though it’s text only, and doesn’t really have other visuals. Text-based game is what I wasn’t familiar with before taking this class. For the narrative, I used the short story I wrote playing ‘The Quiet Year’ early in the semester. The story is about the girl who stole apples from the town apple tree. But for the final project, I made the game from the view of another character who doesn’t appear in the original story. I used twine array and variables to make the narrative more dynamic and to make player has their own choice to unfold the story.

“Don’t be ashamed of using your own idea” When I first started this project and didn’t know what narrative that I want to use for my twine game, I read this card and thought about what are the narrative that I created in the past.
“What is the reality of the situations?” This made me think about how realistic and relatable is my narrative, and I thought that what happens in the game is realistic but little bit exaggerated because in reality, you wouldn’t be a huge trouble just by stealing some apples from the apple tree.
“Take a break” When I got overwhelmed with the all the works that I had to do for my finals and couldn’t focus on creating a game, I took a break and had some refreshments.
“Repetition is form of change” In the game I made the player to repeat a certain action to go to the next step.
“Is there something missing?” This is the question that I constantly asked myself in the process of creating this game.
Reflection
I learned many interesting things that I wouldn't have learned anywhere if I didn't take the class. I enjoyed learning about coding and creating games with the codes that I learned. It definitely helped me feel more comfortable with using codes. And I would want to apply what I learned from this class(coding, twine, bitsy…) to other design projects that I will do in my other classes in the future. I think I believe that I deserve a fair grade, maybe B or B+. I couldn’t finish the midterm assignment in time and it took extra weeks for me to finish it. Other than that, I believe I tried my best on the exercises and assignments using things that I am capable of and things that I learned.
